Ian Kinsler set with Rangers for a while after nomadic journey (AP)
Ian Kinsler took a nomadic journey to becoming the starting second baseman for the Texas Rangers. There were three different college teams in three seasons. Then after Kinsler was drafted in the 17th round, he made a quick rise through the Texas minor league system, playing for four teams at three levels over three summers.

Hank Blalock and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back homers and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 8-5 on Thursday. Right-hander Jason Jennings, who missed three months last season with the Houston Astros because of elbow problems, gave up two runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. “It’s getting there,” Jennings said.

Texas Rangers send catcher Saltalamacchia to minors, making Laird starter (AP)
Gerald Laird won his duel with Jarrod Saltalamacchia for the job as the Texas Rangers’ starting catcher. Saltalamacchia was optioned to the Rangers’ minor league camp Wednesday. The 22-year-old switch-hitter, acquired in the July trade that sent Mark Teixeira to Atlanta, will catch every day at Triple-A Oklahoma.
