Ryan, Rangers agree to 4-year deal (AP)
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan has agreed to a four-year contract as president of the Texas Rangers. Ryan agreed to take the Texas job earlier this month, but terms of the deal weren’t reached until Friday. Also, the Rangers gave general manager Jon Daniels a two-year contract extension through 2011.

Hamilton’s 2-run double leads Rangers to 6-1 win over Royals (AP)
Josh Hamilton hit a two-run double in the fifth inning Wednesday and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-1 in their spring training opener. Hamilton was the first player chosen in the 1999 draft, but played only 15 professional games from 2003-06 after being suspended for violating baseball’s drug policy.

Rangers’ McCarthy scratched from first spring start because of elbow soreness (AP)
Texas right-hander Brandon McCarthy will not start the Rangers’ spring training opener because of soreness in his right elbow. Rangers manager Ron Washington said Tuesday the injury was minor and McCarthy was being held back as a precaution. The Rangers open their spring schedule Wednesday against Kansas City.
